The Depew Union Free School District is committed to “Challenge and inspire students to achieve at the highest level and become responsible citizens.”  It is the goal of the district to prepare students to move on to postsecondary training and the local workforce, for a “world yet to be imagined.” To make these goals a reality, the district has begun teaching using STEAM integration as part of the instructional process in grades K-12.

To showcase their commitment, the Depew Union Free School District will hold a school/community STEAM celebration from 6 to 8 p.m. Thursday, March 22, at Depew High School Depew’s K-12 S.T.E.A.M Family Fun Night will feature hands-on activities and demonstrations highlighting STEAM related skills, showcasing how to make the ordinary extraordinary.

STEAM stands for Science, Technology, Engineering, Art and Mathematics and is a process of teaching that challenges students to solve real world problems in collaborative groups, using an inquiry design process.

The event will include make and take areas for everyone to experience the exciting work students are doing. These activities will include creating and testing trebuchets, robotics and coding, art creation areas, and challenge stations for the family to enjoy.

The evening will also include book giveaways, exciting prizes (including Ozobot robots) door prizes, raffles and local food trucks.
