Principal Message 2019
Depew High School is considered a small school with an enrollment at approximately 550 students in grades 9-12. We take pride in offering an extensive stimulating program to our students. Our graduation rate has gone from 74% in 2001 to a high of 96% in 2018. We have approximately 70 staff members who make up our excellent teaching and student support staff.
We offer students over 30 Advanced Placement courses such as AP Calculus, AP U.S. Government & Politics, AP Literature, AP U.S. History, AP Art, AP Statistics, AP Computer science and many more. We also offer students the opportunity to earn college credit in courses such as Criminal Justice, French, and Spanish. Students can also earn college credit in the Project Lead the Way, a pre-engineering program, and the Academy of Finance.
Depew High School offers an exciting variety of courses and activities to help prepare students for post-secondary education and/or future careers. We are one of the few 1-1 device schools in the area. The instructional program is designed to encourage students to achieve at the highest level possible, with emphasis on Regents, Honor, and Advanced Placement courses. An Academic Assistance Center (AAC) provides support to students as they strive for academic excellence. This past year, over 51% of our students earned a Regents Diploma with Advanced Distinction.
Besides core academic subjects, students may enroll in electives from the following areas: art, business, computer, science, music, and technology. Students have the opportunity to be a part of the National Academy of Finance which offers a number of valuable authentic experiences and internships in a number of fields. We offer a strong Project Lead the Way program which is for students who are interested in the fields of engineering and technology. Student’s also have the option to learn and develop skills in 28 different career and technical courses through Erie 1 BOCES.
We believe that extra-curricular activities play and important role in the quality of our students’ overall education. Our athletic complex is state of the art with new turf fields for soccer, baseball and football. Girls hockey and boys lacrosse are the latest sports to be added to our extensive athletic opportunities. The Depew High School fitness center is equipped with the latest digital exercise machines and is the largest of any other small school in the WNY region. Over 50 percent of our students participate in interscholastic sports. In addition, there are over 20 extracurricular offerings that provide ample opportunities for students to explore and develop their social, career, and cultural interests.
