Dear Depew Parents & Guardians,
Thank you for the continued feedback that you have been providing over the past several weeks on the District’s Reopening Plan through our various Thoughtexchange surveys. It has certainly allowed us to reshape and refine our school-community’s plan. At this point, we need specific information about each of our students and the intent of our families to return to school. We will gather this information through the Depew UFSD Family Intent Survey.
Governor Andrew Cuomo, the NYS Department of Health (NYSDOH) and Education Department (NYSED) released detailed health and safety guidance for reopening schools; specifically, mandating that students be six (6) feet apart and wear masks in classrooms and on school buses. As a result of the Governor's guidance on social distancing, it is not possible for Depew to conduct in-person instruction with 100% of the students in attendance at this time.
It is our understanding that Governor Cuomo will make a decision about reopening schools later this week. If the Governor allows schools to reopen, we would need to enact our Hybrid Model Scenario #1: Reduced capacity with partial reopening and all students UPK-12 attending on an alternate week day with students with the last names beginning with A thru L attending school on Mondays and Thursdays and students with last names beginning with M thru Z participating in Remote Learning; then students with the last names beginning with M thru Z attending school on Tuesdays and Fridays and students with last names beginning with A thru L participating in Remote Learning.
Please note: we have advised our local child care providers to articulate our potential plans, especially as it pertains to the hybrid models.
We developed a survey to gather student-specific data regarding school reopening. The survey consists of the following items:
- In-person Instruction (Hybrid)
- Remote Learning
- Internet Access
Please submit a survey for each student in your household by Friday, August 14, 2020. If you have multiple children in the district, please complete multiple, separate surveys. The link to the survey is Depew UFSD Family Intent Survey.
Our top priority has been and will always be the safety and well-being of our students and the entire Depew Family. At the same time, we are focused on fulfilling our core mission and commitment to the students of Depew.
