Good Afternoon Depew Families this is a special message from Dr. Rabey:
As we are optimistic that we will be opening schools at full capacity this fall, and are currently staffing and preparing our buildings for a full five days a week of in-person learning, we are still waiting for updated guidance on reopening schools in September that has still not yet been provided to us by New York State. In absence of that guidance, we are doing what we can to prepare for some of the possible requirements that may be included within that updated document.
We are not anticipating offering a full remote option for students next school year. However, we feel it prudent to be prepared to offer a remote learning option should we have immunocompromised students for whom we are required to provide such a setting. In preparing for this possibility, we are collaborating with other school districts and Erie 1 BOCES to enroll in their E-Academy, in order to provide this remote learning opportunity to our students. Our students, along with other students from the area, who also require this special accommodation, will be enrolled in this remote school setting and taught by BOCES’ teachers.
If your child has been diagnosed by a doctor as having a compromised immune system, and that doctor believes that your child’s return to a regular school setting in the fall poses a danger due to that condition, you will need to fill out the required Google Form. This form is available on our District Website at www.depewschools.org and needs to be completed no later than Wednesday, August 4th by 5pm, as space is limited.
Please note that a written diagnosis of the condition, a doctor’s note and contact information for that doctor will be required to be submitted to your school nurse by the start of the school year, Wednesday, September 8th and prior to being enrolled in the E-Academy.
After we receive updated guidance from the state and understand its implications for reopening schools this fall, we will communicate that with the school-community. We thank you again for your continued support, cooperation and patience.
