Depew Middle School studnets had an opportunity to learn about STEAM related careers in the school's first STEAM Cafe. The event was part of the district's joint partnership with WNY Stem Hub and Praxair.
In a lunch a learn format, our guest described their career path and training and how it relates to everything the students do in school. Learning how to learn and being resourceful was cited as a critical skill in our ever changing job climate. The speakers highlighted that they had no formal training, outside of their college education for the jobs they have. The students were told that they need to be open to learning, trying new things, collaborating and problem solving.
An important take away was the fact that many of the STEAM jobs do not require advanced degrees, and are actually available to students with a 2 year college degree. The speakers also said that STEAM careers offer a lot of room for personal growth and advancement.
