James Helms, a middle and high school science teacher, won a $300 technology grant sponsored by Fresh Films, Best Buy and Subway. He learned in September that he had won one of the 70 grants that were available to educators across the country. In November, a grant photographer came to the school to present him with the award, and Subway provided nine sub platters for all of the middle school teachers. Helms will use the money to purchase a digital microscope that can project an image to students’ Chromebooks.
Helms teaches middle school science 6, 7, 8, as well as forensic science and environmental science at the high school. He is also the high school science olympiad coach and the middle school science club advisor, talent show advisor and technology resource teacher.
