For the first time, STEAM Day was held for Pre-K through 5th graders at Cayuga Heights Elementary on November 16. Around 850 students participated in 160 minutes of STEAM instruction, while having fun at the same time.
The staff and administration at Cayuga spent nearly six months planning out everything from the time students arrived to the time they left for the day. Each teacher planned an activity relating to an area of STEAM and students rotated between classrooms to experience them all. Even specials, like library, were involved in the fun and learning taking place. Third-grade teachers took a unique approach with a Sports and STEAM theme students loved. The Leader in Me tenant of “There Is Only One You” was also incorporated into a school-wide art activity where each student decorated their own fish, all of which were then hung in the hallway at the end of the day.
