Depew Middle School’s Innovation Station classes had another successful year at the Cardboard Arcade Challenge at KeyBank Center on Friday, January 30. Students from schools across Western New York gathered to compete in a variety of game categories, showcasing their creativity, teamwork and technical skills.
Over the course of two months, these young innovators worked hard at inventing, designing and building original games entirely from cardboard, integrating technology in inventive ways. Students this year were especially creative, collaborating to make games such as Possum Panic, Continental Darts, Light Wave, Operation Trojan Cat and Knock Em Quiet. Students blended technology like Scratch coding and Makey Makey with artistic design to bring their ideas to life.
Two Depew teams earned top recognition at the event. Acorn Rush received the Innovation Award, while 1 v 1 Wemby took home the Player’s Choice Award, chosen favorite game by all student attendees.
Every student left the event proud, energized, and equipped with new skills, reflecting the spirit of innovation that defines the program.
Congrats to the members of the winning teams!
