Students participate in Freedom in America Contest Ceremony.

Depew Middle School continued a proud district tradition with the 52nd annual Freedom In America Essay and Poster Contest Assembly on Friday, May 15. The event highlighted the writing, creativity and public speaking skills of seventh and eighth grade students as they reflected on the theme “Freedom in America.”

The winner of the essay contest was eighth grader Emily Okie, who was awarded $200 and received a plaque commemorating the event. Seventh grader Jenna Durham placed second and was awarded $150. Runners-up included eighth graders Jameson McGloin and David Sulzbach and seventh grader Reese Ostrowski, who each received $100.

For the poster contest, the high school Art Department selected finalists and winners from all submitted posters. Seventh grader Morgan Peszko earned first place, receiving $150 and a commemorative plaque. Seventh grader Lily Kinderman placed second and was awarded $100. Runners-up included seventh graders Amirah Abdul Manan, Harper Spinelli and Scarlett Wilkanowski, who each received $75.

Congratulations to all of this year’s finalists, winners and participants for their hard work, thoughtful submissions and outstanding representation of Depew.
